Robert “sideshow” Drawbaugh
My introduction to the creative process came when I was 12, while building out my first skateboard. I choose a Jeff Kendall graffiti deck, and then I (unknowingly) dove into an exploration of visual touch points, finding wheels matching the deck’s established color palette and a grip tape pattern that shared a similar shape language. I actually enjoyed creating the skateboard more than riding it, and that was the summer I discovered my destiny was to become a professional creative instead of a professional skater.
I dig art history and draw on it extensively in my practice. The classic Italian artist Caravaggio taught me how to guide the viewer’s eye across a layout and establish a visual hierarchy using shafts of light and color contrast. Japanese block prints introduced me to the power of flat color space and patterning. These influences and many more have helped define my creative voice.
I’ve been playing the design game for 15+ years—and I just leveled up my UX/UI skills, so I’m ready to take on bigger bosses. I excel at visual design, but I’ve always felt compelled to learn as much as possible about research and production, which makes me both a geek and a nerd. I approach my projects from an artisan mindset, refining and evolving projects via feedback and iterative design. Consistency and well-thought-out details are vital to the success of every project.
Thank you for your time
